Winter Reflections: Week 8

Ladies! We are on the second to last prompt for our Winter Reflections Journaling Event. We would love to hear how this journey has been for you. Has this time to yourself helped you rest and reflect? What lessons have you learned from the last year that you will carry with you?

This week, we’re talking about a deeply personal relationship that we all share… with our bodies.

As we embrace a seasonal perspective for our personal and professional lives, we quickly learned that we must expect our bodies to go through seasons as well. They do what they need to do as best they can. It’s part of the complexity and beauty of being a woman: acknowledging and accepting that health, for us, means knowing that changes will happen.

We age! And here is your reminder that you are allowed to enjoy it. You are allowed to love your body through every season.

Just like taking care of your hair, skin, and nails makes them glow, caring for our bodies as a whole strengthens our inner voice. Our bodies will always communicate with us, whether it’s fight or flight or a nagging feeling to pass up the coleslaw at a potluck. The tricky part is listening to it over the noise of the world that tries to crush us down to a size 0.

A personal reflection from Caia Claire, the VS Brand Storyteller: “In the throes of disordered eating, therapy helped me to realize my fears. Dance and yoga taught my body how to move on without them, igniting encouragement to expand my capabilities over forcing myself to be what I was never meant to be. I was never meant to just be a body, and my body reminded me of that.”

As women, we bloom and grow despite the world’s expectations of our success. Be kind to your body and let it bloom with you, because it may not look how you think it should, but she’s growing with you all the same.

Your body is capable of incredible things and continues to do them every day. Your presence carries warmth and safety. Your laughter radiates with joy. Your art, your gift of creativity, thrives because your body helps you to harness it. 

While lessons from the past nourish wisdom, the deeply personal journey of caring for your physical health nourishes your intuition. As you sow your seeds for the coming year, remind yourself that you are capable of listening to your body and following what it is asking of you.
