come play with me – Phyllis Sharpe, oil on canvas
“In this little painting, two tiny girls are seen playing on the beach. In the warm sunny afternoon, they hold hands as they frolic in front of the breaking waves. One of them wears a turquoise jumpsuit, and the other is in a lovely pink dress. On a warm, sunny summer day, their delight was evident to everyone within sight of them. I just had to capture the sense of childhood friendship and love, on canvas.” (source)
Where women gather, creativity flourishes.
Where women gather, our stories cultivate growth.
Where women gather, we generate the power to elevate the whole of society.
Summer blossoms, like creative women, hold so much more to them than meets the eye. From a tiny seed, a home unto itself buried in the dark unknown, to the sweet and colorful splendor we celebrate as a flower greets the sun, each delicate petal is a result of nutrient-rich soil, proper watering, warmth, and patience. These flowers have taken the time to root before breaking through their own glass ceiling. Now, in the thriving season of Summer, they celebrate each day alongside the sunshine and honeybees, offering beauty and pollen in return for the help it received to exist and thrive, driven simply by the natural cycle of growth. May we always lovingly remember that each blooming flower is part of an entire ecosystem dedicated to its flourishing presence and continuing growth.

The great Day of Play has come and gone, but Summer days are just getting started!
Here at Virtuosa Society, we’re always exploring ways to make our seasonal events as accessible as possible to anyone who wants to join. The joy of gathering and sharing community with other creative women is simply unmatched, yet it can span across the globe and every woman deserves to know that joy. For this season, we celebrated in the best way… by having fun!
“My day began bright and early as I joined the Blossom Beauty team to work our wedding hair and makeup magic. Love swirled in the air, steamed dresses hung high, and our services helped the bride and her ladies feel calm, confident, and more beautiful than ever on the big day. After that, it was time for another wedding! This time I was in attendance at a small gathering around a beautiful natural spring to witness two friends tie the knot. The following celebratory dinner brought new friendships and fun stories, and this princess even got home before midnight!”

“This month marked the 40th Anniversary of fan-favorite movie The Goonies. Solstice weekend was therefore the ideal time to play at the Oregon Coast alongside dear friends visiting from Tennessee. One of our favorite stops along a day spent touring Hwy 101 was Astoria where the movie was filmed. This entire quaint coastal community is like a time-capsule! We felt like the intrepid kids in the movie traipsing along the coastline, and we even stopped for a pic in front of the Goonies house. It was pure childlike joy!”

This month has been the great transition between Spring and Summer, and we have been exploring what it means to incorporate fun and play into our lives as creative women. Our journeys are far from linear, just like our imaginations are always exploring the world around us. This is the time of year when nature invites us to venture outside for every reminder of our place in the cycle, where growth is inevitable and nurturing comes naturally.
The theme of Tending in May helped to ensure we were properly rooted before reaching for the skies, balancing our inner and outer ecosystems to help physical and metaphorical seeds find their homes in our gardens. As women, we are often seen as the gardeners, cooks, and caretakers of the home, so instead you can find inspiration for play in our blog posts from June. Explore what it’s like to take your inner child’s hand and let them guide you into their exponential imagination, and let it fuel your creative talents.
