Ladies, it’s a good thing we took another look at our vision boards through the eyes of our inner child last month because the year is already halfway over!
During the month of July, we spent a lot of time with that inner child of ours, trying out her perspective on our current goals, dreams, and day to day lives. Whether you’re going back to school this month or treating yourself to some brand new pens just because, it’s time to follow nature’s guidance and continue working toward a bountiful Fall harvest… but that doesn’t mean play time is done.
When we hit burnout, especially as women, it’s often because of the unhealthy cycles we are pressured to adhere to – like keeping quiet, undervaluing our opinions, and generally tip-toeing any which way to avoid rocking the boat as if the tide is irrelevant. When we embrace the childlike wonder and curiosity that once ruled our young imaginations, it propels that stagnant circle of fear into a cycle of growth.
Children use their imaginations and make-believe games to better understand the world around them and how they can interact with it. When we are young, we were less if at all concerned about how the world would perceive our worth. The world instead was ours to take and run with, climb over, and race alongside: simply a vast place with endless ways to help us find who we are and truly want to be.

As adults, and especially as women, we are faced with the challenge of keeping our childlike qualities at the forefront of our minds and interactions. We have grown to realize that so many systems in the world are built to benefit from status and comparison, insisting that judgment is more gratifying than curiosity, and that it is somehow critical to uphold how we are perceived by others rather than connecting with our own personal sense of wonder.
Maybe there were some regulatory and consistent actions that inspired you during play time this Summer. What do they say about yourself and your inner ecosystem? How do you personally hold dear your childlike qualities as you navigate life as an adult?
Understanding your own personal answers to these questions is vital when it comes to keeping burnout at bay. This is not a tooth and nail fight; instead we constantly seek ways to love ourselves through every curve of each seasonal cycle so that we are simply too fulfilled to consider the possibility of pouring until we are empty.
As you navigate your work/life balance in August, use your imagination to explore what it is like to keep your childlike qualities as motivation. May joy and wonder be not a result of your productivity, but its driving force as you continue to work toward your goals for this year.
