Christina’s World – Andrew Wyeth, 1948
The woman crawling through the tawny grass was the artist’s neighbor in Maine, who, crippled by polio, “was limited physically but by no means spiritually.” Wyeth further explained, “The challenge to me was to do justice to her extraordinary conquest of a life which most people would consider hopeless.” He recorded the arid landscape, rural house, and shacks with great detail, painting minute blades of grass, individual strands of hair, and nuances of light and shadow. Fall is upon us, renewing our spirits with a soft chill and our bodies with a bountiful harvest. The transition from Summer has left us filled with her warmth as if promising to return next year – a flame kindled by abundance, community, and accomplishments of all shapes and sizes. As creative women, this time of year invites us to receive our flowers with grace and honor both our nonlinear journeys and unique capabilities in navigating them.

Virtuosa Society will be entering a period of hibernation beginning this week. This means you won’t hear from us for a while as we step back from operations to navigate our personal journeys, as well as the ever-changing landscape of non-profits.
This hibernation will be a season of quiet focus to truly live as an example of what we encourage you to do with our weekly inspiration. The Virtuosa Society journey echoes that of every female creative. Sometimes in order to grow, you have to think small! In stepping back, we will nourish new perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of how to serve you in more meaningful, purposeful, and thoughtful ways.
Our goal is to come back stronger than ever with a clarified mission and solid steps of action. For now, this means our shop will be on a hiatus, and our seasonal planner collab with Mindy Carpenter is in the works for a 2027 release. We are endlessly grateful for Mindy’s support and partnership! Don’t forget to shop Carpe Diem Papers for all of your stationery desires.
We will be popping into your inbox to check in every once in a while, so keep an eye out for us over the Winter months! We already look forward to returning and hearing about your journey through the cycle of each season. You can always revisit the blog if you need some inspiration, and our weekly and monthly podcasts feature stories about women just like you – stories that deserve to be shared.
We love you all so dearly, and we will see you soon for a seasonal check in!
Xoxo Katie & Caia
