Duft by Hannah Höch. This painting is of a side profile of a woman surrounded by flowers. Her eyes are closed and head is tilted downward as she holds an armful of flowers with an almost delicate embrace.

Hannah Höch (1889-1978) was a German photomontage artist and painter. She was the only woman member of the Berlin Dada group and exhibited at the First International Dada Fair in 1920. By the time she painted Duft (Fragrance) in 1937, she was facing grave personal and professional challenges.

The Nazis had classified her as a “Degenerate” artist and banned her from exhibiting. With most of her friends having left Berlin, she found herself alone in the city, and later described this period saying, “the radical loneliness had set in […]. Everyone distrusted everyone else. So one did not talk to anybody any more. One forgot how to speak”.

As seeds take root and stems break through, we continue to envision our seeds in full fruition. The pacing of Spring is steady and kind. The earth cleanses herself as water pours from the sky and into the soil, nearly divine reassurance that it is time for seeds to grow. We work in harmony with the daylight and the bees, knowing that the nourishment we provide for our gardens will be spread far and wide. May we as creative women always remember that our strengths are not quiet – they are as powerful as the rain, vast as the earth, and bright as the sun to keep our gardens of creativity flourishing.

In case you haven’t heard, we are looking for a graphic designer to join our team for a new collaborative project. Together with Mindy Carpenter at Carpe Diem Papers, we are creating a seasonal planner specifically designed to fit the needs and hone the skills of creative women.

Are you a graphic design visionary? Let’s connect!

We are looking for a gal who is savvy with planner and journal layouts, detail-oriented, and aims to deliver her work with passion. If this sounds like you or someone you know, we would love to hear from you.

A postcard addressed to All Virtuosas - Everywhere! The message says our new collab is in the works. A painting of butterflies, fruit, and flowers by Mindy Carpenter is on the left, containing a quote from Albert Einstein: "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions."

Those of you who have followed us for a while know that Virtuosa Society is dedicated to the nourishment and edification of women so they may freely harness and express their creativity. This spans across fields – marketing, business, performing arts, research, painting, writing, culinary arts, modeling, activism, motherhood, and so much more.

We have also embraced a seasonal perspective in order to shift focus to our needs as both women and humans, rejecting the downward spiral of burnout and embracing the natural cycle of energy brought to us by each solstice and equinox. Seasonal events have become our cherished way to celebrate the seasons with a community of other creative women, meeting each other no matter where we are to celebrate our unique journeys through life.

As Virtuosa Society continues to grow, we have shifted focus this year to exploring ways to make our offerings accessible to women everywhere. Yes, this is quite the challenge! And we are happy to take it on.

Applications for the Janet Coleman Grant will open this Winter, and you can learn more here. The brand new planner we are in the process of creating will also be listed in our shop, and all future events will have a way for you to participate in your own way.

We see you and celebrate you.

We as women bring plenty to the table. Heck, we can even build or refurbish the table if we so choose! We are here to remind you that you are precious and powerful. Your voice matters, and we want to hear it.

That’s why we were so elated to get your feedback in our survey last month! We learned a lot from our audience and what you look for in a planner. Such a nonlinear journey through life as that of a creative woman is inherently deserving of necessary tools on hand, so it has been enlightening behind the scenes here at Virtuosa Society as we analyze the results.

The majority of women who participated in this survey use both a journal and a planner, specifically preferring a planner with both daily and monthly calendars ready to fill.

Space for taking notes is also widely preferred, however we nearly faced a tie after asking if a digital or physical planner is preferred. Physical was only the winner by a small margin.

Because of your feedback, we are also exploring possibilities of a digital element to this planner. As always, we’ll be bursting at the seams until we can share an update!

For now, we would be so grateful if you would spread the word that we are looking for a graphic designer to help us bring this vision to life.

But wait… we keep saying “collaboration” here, so who else is in on it?

Mindy Carpenter, founder of Carpe Diem Papers, has graciously offered her original works of art to be featured in this project. This woman is lovelier than a field full of Spring flowers! “Nostalgic art meets vintage style” best describes her unique style, celebrating everyday charm and beauty.

The Between the Bio Podcast returns May 5th, so tune in and learn more about this incredible artist, traveler, and friend.

As the progress of this collaborative project continues, so too will our weekly seasonal inspiration straight to your inbox. Thank you for being a part of our community at Virtuosa Society for another beautiful cycle of Spring. ♡
