What is that little voice saying about you right now?
She may be telling you that you’re wasting time and should be doing something more productive. Maybe she has something to say about your hair or outfit.
That voice is such a %!$?#. Like what is she even talking about?
As women, the lifelong fight against the learned tendency to care for others over ourselves is always on the forefront. If someone approached your bestie and said her hair is ugly, you wouldn’t stand for it. So why, when it’s a quiet voice that only we can hear, do we not condone the same justice for ourselves?
For this week’s Winter Reflections journal prompt, we are practicing another grounding exercise of living in the present moment. And we’re challenging that voice… because she always butts in and she’s never welcome.
Self-Compassion is the theme of the day – whatever day today may be. This is the radical concept that we are inherently deserving of kindness and grace, and our achievements are always worthy of celebration, so we should be treated as such. Simple, yet radical.
There are many different ways that self-compassion helps us actively live in the present moment:
- Journal! Your feelings are valid and your words are invaluable.
- Release yourself from the pressure of “having” to give 100% of yourself at all times. You are inherently precious and whole.
- Allow help. This is how others can show love to you, and how you can receive love from others.
- Rest & sleep. Make sure your body and mind take proper breaks to destress.
- Forgive yourself first. Give yourself the grace that you effortlessly extend to others.
- Ask for help. Reminder: flowing through grief or tough emotion is not a DIY project!
- Swallow your pride. Loving yourself doesn’t require an armor that keeps others out, which pride often does. Knowing your self worth invites others in and encourages healthy boundaries.
For this week’s prompt, consider it an exercise in self-compassion instead of a challenge to that voice if she butts in again. That part is just a bonus! Take time with your journal and notes to lift yourself up with love as you do for others. Trust me, they want you to know how amazing it is to be loved by you!

Remember when we said our Garden Party Kits will be back for sale in our shop?
Well, we only lied a little bit.
Our Winter Reflections here at Virtuosa Society are lovingly shaping the year ahead in amazing ways. We are working to make our events accessible to all, no matter where you are in the world.
In order for that to happen, we’re utilizing the power of the internet to bring the best of VS events straight to the fingertips of creative women everywhere.
Our Garden Party Kits are now available as a FREE download in our shop!
Last year, we welcomed Spring with Garden Parties both online and IRL. We chatted about the importance of focusing on your goals and finding a good starting point, aka choosing which seeds to plant in our gardens of creativity. We then created vision boards together to inspire us for the rest of the year.
It was so much fun! This year, we want everyone to experience the same joy and join us in celebrating our goals for 2025. The Virtuosa Society Garden Party Kit has everything you need to get started.
Save the date for our Spring Solstice event on March 20th, and make a mental note to gather all of those magazines in your craft room that have been waiting to become part of your vision board. Their time is coming soon!
