Seasonal Perspective

The Mrs. Claus Effect

A Christmas tree sits on the left of the image, and Mrs. Claus stands partially behind it. She's looking to the right with a big grin.

Women are the cornerstones of celebration. We see you standing tall with that #MainCharacterEnergy, protecting your peace and delivering a fun and festive holiday experience to those around you.

Yes, we have been sharing inspiration with you about slowing down for the season… and we know that sometimes that isn’t an option. Those of us with close family know that it works best as a unit with each person lovingly doing their part.

This week, our hope for you is to experience The Mrs. Claus Effect: to see a need and fill it as you always do, not because it’s your job or your role, but because accommodating the needs of others is an important part of showing love to them as we gather together.

There will still be time to slow down this season if you haven’t (or can’t!) already, and no one is here to point fingers – unless you’re the cook in the kitchen that has the house smelling so decadent! In the spirit of the season, here are 5 tips from Mrs. Claus herself on how to make the most of every holiday moment.

Make the most of your planning.

Remember when we were embracing that #MainCharacterEnergy a couple weeks ago? Life is far from a Lifetime movie, yet so often we find ourselves in that third act conflict, and it hits a little harder as we get softer with the sweetness of the season. Mrs. Claus advises to never leave room for disappointment in your holiday plans. Sometimes we accidentally burn the cookies or knock over the gingerbread house. Santa knows you’re busy and just wants you to enjoy the magic of the season.

Make the most of your time.

This doesn’t necessarily mean time alone because so many celebrations are meant to be shared! Mrs. Claus wants you to know that your time is priceless, whether you’re spending it alone or in a house full of guests. She also gives you full permission to excuse yourself when needed. Your energy is precious.

Make the most of your time with others.

Taking an extra moment to create those unexpected holiday accommodations in a way that works best for everyone is a powerful example of both leadership and love. We don’t always want to hear about Aunt Sharon’s new boyfriend, we just need to appreciate that it’s meaningful for her to share. In the hustle and bustle – and awkward conversations at family gatherings – it’s easy to assume where someone is coming from when they require accommodations that defer from what is expected. As we learned in the Art & Beauty of Conversation, embracing authenticity and extending curiosity to others will take us a great deal further than assumptions ever can, helping everyone feel welcome during the holidays. Mrs. Claus wants to remind you that your presence is the best present, and others showing love to you in their own way is a gift unto itself.

Make the most of what you have to offer.

Mrs. Claus cannot stress enough that this is an excellent time to be authentically you. Let your heart be light with the warmth and acceptance of the season, and offer a hearty welcome to your table. Twinkling lights, ornaments, and freshly made feasts are a huge perk of the holidays. Your acceptance and accommodation without assumption are what make this time of year so loving and memorable to those around you.

Make the most of what you want.

Rewind back to twinkling lights, ornaments, and freshly made feasts… and add festive decor, seasonal wardrobe inspiration, pumpkin spice, and whatever else brings you joy! If you find yourself with a little Grinch on your shoulder, put on some ice skates and dance him right off. Mrs. Claus saved her most important advice for last: Treat yourself, babe. You deserve it.
